很多人對著鏡子打理儀容,想以最佳姿態示人,卻換來別人的批評.
最近為了準備公司的培訓預先做了一個叫"360"的評估,是邀請工作上不同的人不記名地填一份關於自己 問卷,有幾個作用,例如比較自己,同僚,上司,高層,下屬等等不同類別的人對自己的看法,又或者他們對於我有什麼共同的評語等等.
幸好不同類別的人對自己的評價都沒有太大分別.所有類別對於我的優劣都有大概一至的看法.唯一有點意外的,是自己一直都很想提攜的下屬門對自己的能力普遍填得偏低.經反思後自己作出了一些判斷,覺得有改善的地方.
這個過程裡有人說了一句話,聽說是某賢者說過的,是"沒有人能真正對著鏡子看自己而不流淚."還好我不用流淚,只是流了點汗.
各下又有沒有面對鏡子的勇氣呢?
A lot of people looks dress up in front of the mirror to show their best self to the world, only to be critized by the public.
Recently as a prepatory work for a training I went through a "360 assessment". It’s a survey where you invite different parties in your working environment on what they think about you. It has several purposes, e.g., to compare the views among self, boss, superior, peer, staff, etc…to see if every group sees you consistently or not, or to get some feedback from these different groups of people.
It was a relief to know that all groups tracked me pretty consistently – every group basically saw my strengths and weaknesses similarly. The only surprise, if any, was that my staff, the people I hold most dearly at work, tend to give me lower overall scores. After some reflection I think I know what could be the problem and where I could improve in this area.
During the whole process, someone had said some profound words which apparently had come from some wise man in the past. "No man could honestly look in the mirror and not cry." I’m glad I didn’t have to shed tears, only a few sweats.
Do you have the courage to look in the mirror?
P.S. Suddenly remember a scene in my favorite novel – The Neverending Story – where the main character Atreyu had to go through 3 tests to see the Southern Oracle. The 2nd test was to go through a mirror gate that reflected the person’s true self. A lot of people turned away or went mad because they could not believe what they saw in the mirror.
